Air Conditioner and Heater Repair Services

Florida is known for its warm weather and sunny skies. In this, Apopka does not fall short. Although the current population is over 41,000, those numbers have grown dramatically since 2000. Construction in the area is ongoing, and as more families and businesses settle in Apopka, the city is increasingly being developed with new attractions and amenities for local residents and guests to fully enjoy.

The History of Apopka

Apopka has a long history, but a great deal of that history has been lost as Native American people were pushed aside. It is known that Apopka was inhabited by the Acuera. However, by 1730, they were gone, most likely due to foreign disease. After the Acuera, more Native Americans came to the area, fleeing European settlers in northern areas. These refugees formed the Seminole tribe. However, by the mid-1850s, the Seminole people were forced to leave Apopka as American settlements continued to grow. In fact, by 1857, there was an American trading center and a Masonic lodge, and Apopka was officially incorporated in 1882.

Modern Apopka

Although Apopka has been a center for trade since its first European settlement, it has seen a large uptick in activity since the year 2000. Now growth is continuing in all directions with the addition of major roads throughout the city. In particular, Apopka has benefitted from the expansion of Wekiva Parkway and Interstate 4, which now provide more direct access to major Florida attractions.

Apopka is part of the Orange County Public School System. There are also several universities and higher learning institutions in the area. Of special note is the Mid-Florida Research and Education Center, which is part of the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. There is also a notable satellite campus for the College of Pharmacy at the University of Florida located in Apopka.p>

The Carroll Building is a historically relevant building with a designation from the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

With 14,000 acres, this recreational area can be used for hiking, horseback riding and hunting. Another choice is Wekiwa Springs State Park, which has impressive views of the Wekiva River. There are 13 miles of trails inside the park, making it extremely popular with locals and tourists.
